The Truth about Medicare

As Dean Baker shows here, while it is true there are problems with Medicare and some reforms are needed, it is nonetheless the most efficient part of our health care system in America. So why does Paul Ryan want to change it to be more like the parts of our system that are run by private industry? Does he not know that Medicare is the most efficient and cost-effective part of the system? Or could it be that he really doesn’t care about the health of Americans and only cares about increasing the wealth of CEOs of private health insurance companies (which is what his plan would do). Ryan has raised almost 2.5 million this election cycle, and has over four million dollars in his coffers. Open secrets, which does an invaluable service of following the money in politics, shows that Ryan’s top contributors are in the insurance industry that will benefit from his plan if it was enacted. The sad thing is that he has gotten the percent of his money from retired people, the very people who will suffer if he gets his way. As I pointed out in my last post, that just shows how adept they are at brainwashing the voters and how vigilant we must be in fighting back with the truth.

About JP

We're two guys who met in college, in 1980. We've stayed in touch, and like to talk politics, current events, music and religion. JP is nore liberal than Sid, but not in every way. We figure that dialogue stimulates ideas, moderates perspective, and is in general friendly. These are things we need badly in these dangerous times. The blog name is taken from a song by Bruce Cockburn.
