Farewell 2011, and thank you, Jim

So ends year one of the TelltheUniverse blog. Hopefully we have lived up to our name. I think we have both tried to tell the universe how we see the world, and I’m sure we have both exposed our blind spots, and I think we have also pushed each other to make our case better, and I see that as one of the key goals of the blog; to make logical, fact-based cases for our positions. At times we have both gotten snarky, and hopefully that has made the blog more interesting to read so that the substance made it through. And there has certainly been good substance. I have learned a lot from you Jim. In part, I learned the difficulties of living and working day to day with those on the far right. At the end of the day I think we agree that Obama needs to be reelected and that it would be very bad for the country if any of the Republican candidates got in–while at the same time recognizing that even with the increased power of the president in the last ten years, their power is still quite limited. We have different views on many of the fine points, and hopefully we can keep searching and making the case in our own ways for Obama 2012. If we can get anyone to vote for Obama who wouldn’t have, or even to think more rationally about the issues (and to help us think more rationally about the issues), then our ongoing discussion has value.
So thanks for all the insights. I apologize for when I’ve gone to far. Thanks for a great 2011. I hope we can continue in 2012 and keep pushing each other to think in new ways, and I hope we’ll be celebrating come November. For now, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and I wish you and your family a happy new year.

About JP

We're two guys who met in college, in 1980. We've stayed in touch, and like to talk politics, current events, music and religion. JP is nore liberal than Sid, but not in every way. We figure that dialogue stimulates ideas, moderates perspective, and is in general friendly. These are things we need badly in these dangerous times. The blog name is taken from a song by Bruce Cockburn.
