Our Broken System

We’ve discussed this story before (the Obama administration fighting state attorney generals in their fight to hold banks accountable), and Eskow does a great job of summarizing it quickly here. For me, it just shows how broken the system is, and that it doesn’t matter if Obama is a good guy or not, as the fact remains he’d never have gotten to be president if he didn’t do the banks bidding. In the column Eskow says “For reasons known only to themselves, officials in the Obama administration have spent more than a year trying to undercut these AGs.” I think he just doesn’t want to say it outright, and in any case I will; the reason is simple. Obama got more money for his campaign from Wall Street than from any other source. And it is true in this cycle as well. He has gotten more money from Wall Street than all the Republican candidates put together. They aren’t giving him money out of the goodness of their hearts, but rather because they want to stay out of jail. We forget that it really is as simple as that at our own peril.

About JP

We're two guys who met in college, in 1980. We've stayed in touch, and like to talk politics, current events, music and religion. JP is nore liberal than Sid, but not in every way. We figure that dialogue stimulates ideas, moderates perspective, and is in general friendly. These are things we need badly in these dangerous times. The blog name is taken from a song by Bruce Cockburn.
