polls

The world series is on so I’ll reply more fully later, though if you think all my evidence is from polls you haven’t been reading any of my emails or posts. Obama won the election; how does that translate to us becoming more conservative. Not a poll. Over a dozen states have passed laws to make it harder for the poor and minorities to register to vote; all done by Republican state legislatures. If they believed their ideology was what people believed, they’d want to make it easier to register to vote. Again, not a poll. A new mass movement spreading across the country. Not a poll.
And frankly, you are as combative for a mythical center as I am for the left. And there is nothing wrong with being combative, particularly in the face of a generation long class war that has shifted wealth upwards. We’ve tried calm reason for years, and people haven’t woken up. You seem to be confusing methodology with substance. It is the substance that matters. Sure, there are people who will react poorly or not listen to anything that is remotely combative. And we have tried the calm way for years and they haven’t responded to that either. As I’ve said before, when you’re getting beat on by a bully, fighting back doesn’t make you the bully. And if in your eyes it makes me as much a bully as the right to try to defend the position of the working and middle class with passion, then guilty as charged.

About JP

We're two guys who met in college, in 1980. We've stayed in touch, and like to talk politics, current events, music and religion. JP is nore liberal than Sid, but not in every way. We figure that dialogue stimulates ideas, moderates perspective, and is in general friendly. These are things we need badly in these dangerous times. The blog name is taken from a song by Bruce Cockburn.
